See, Voltron? Voltron is a franchise I'm fine with a new iteration happening, whatever the medium. I don't have faith that the new adaptation will be good in our current live action remake landscape, and I'm not screaming on main about a live action remake in theoretical works, but I don't care. It means affectionately looking at yet another way something went well or didn't. It means Voltron keeps living. It's meant to continue being told in different ways.

I can't care about the quality of new Voltron materials. If it's bad? I'll smile affectionately. If it's great? I'll screech in glory.

Heck, the very existence of Voltron is an amalgamated mess, and it's only fair we keep stirring the stew. This is a show that began when a US American studio vaguely requested a mecha show ("the one with the lion" lol), received the wrong show from the Japanese studio, then shrugged, ran with it, combined it with material from two other mecha shows, and campily reworked plot and worldbuilding points to align with American censorship standards. While having, like, three voice actors for 90% of the characters. And then when we branched off that, then branched off that branch, then branched off that first branch with another branch, we kept remixing the ideas of previous iterations together. Ideas made from ideas made from ideas, circling back down to previous ideas and mixing them with new ideas -- it's great.

This is a world about a human team inhabiting a medieval-style castle riding sentient ancient robot lions that merge into a sword-wielding robot man to fight purple imperialistic space elves. The Voltron team has been chased by mall cops on a flying cow. He hates mutants because they are different, they are "flawed", and therefore they are a threat. I figured he was just a hateful asshole, and hadn't thought about it more then that.

But for this, they decided to go in a different direction. The ✨tragic backstory✨ direction. Which is a pretty good direction! IF you do it right. Which, in my humble opinion, THEY ABSOLUTELY DID NOT!!!!

Ok let's get some actual points here!

When we get Josefina Bishop's backstory, she starts as this passionate, nice character who is eager to achieve her robot building dreams. Nothing about her is mean or hating or anything of the sort. She has a sister who died and who is the inspiration of her work. Awesome!

And then one day Superfly kills her sister and destroys her lifes work. Yes, she can rebuild the robots. Not the sister though, and making them without her is such an empty and performative motion.

Mutants have gotten people killed. They're too dangerous, its too much of a risk.

This mindset would make so much more sense if they just HAD SUPERFLY KILL HER SISTER LIKE OMG.

Ships... the age old question...

I'm honestly not the kind of person who gets heavily invested into a lot of ships. That being said, I do enjoy them a lot, especially when it involves a cast I am as attached to as class 79! And one of those handful of ships I am highly invested in is a DRA ship, lol. (It's Kinjomae... and to be honest, a really big part of my DRA special interest is filled by those two characters, and Utsuro, in general if not together)

Kinjo and Yuki tend to end up being with central roles in most of my DRA related thoughts, art, and writing, it just kind of sneaks in, regardless, somewhere.

I like interpreting them in a queer platonic or more ace-leaning relationship as well. Not always, but I've made a habit of it. So yeah they're going to have a relationship of some sort in this au too.

To specify, I am referring to DRA1 Yuki; I don't really ship the real Yuki and Tsurugi together. To me, they are two very distinct characters with different personalities from each other despite their similarities, not just memories... I won't get into all that (a post for another day perhaps) but in context of Kinjomae, only one of them is his Yuki, who knows and cares for him.

Exploring the relationship between Tsurugi and (actual) Yuki Maeda is still super interesting though, and I can understand why people ship it, there's loads of interesting places to go with it.

Also, I'm the kind of fan who can be swayed to accept almost any pairing or headcanon, especially in the context of the respective work (art/writing, etc) I really think it's possible to execute pretty much anything in a convincing manner if done well, and that applies to ships and stuff. Are there some ships and/or headcanons that give me the ick? Yup. Are there some I just don't like? Yeah. It just takes a lot for me to really get to a level where I hate something.

Uh, let's see... there are a few other ships I tend to immediately think of, even if I'm not as invested!

Ayame/Akane (may or may not be teased or explored in the pony au)

I mean, we get to meet her mom, and even that didn't give me any more insight into her childhood or personality at all... which is kind of hard to ignore when the time we spend (or being told about via FTES) with Ando, Keisuke, Ryutaro, and Midori all give their respective family members more context and anchors we didn't have before. Plus the tiniest whiff of Juu we get speaks volumes for Tsurugi's upbringing, it is very easy to fill in the blanks.

As much as it is a tradition to hate on Mitch, I don't really hate him as a character: he works perfectly well for the kind of role he's meant to fill, (I mean, he's designed to be a case 1 killer first and foremost) and personally, I find it a lot easier to add layers to him than Kizuna because he has a base I can wrap my head around, unlike Kizuna, even if it is a really simple one.

sunday (hsr) theorycrafting!

alleged leaks ahead, proceed with caution

so. okay. the sunday leaks i'm referring to are the ones about how, apparently, playable sunday has a two-coloured coat; the left half looks different from the right half.

which got me kinda thinking. we all know what npc sunday, the one we're familiar with, looks like, yeah? (images below)

with the exception of a few things (pretty much par for the course in star rail), his outfit is basically symmetrical. it's very... orderly, one might say. it's more plain, more simple in terms of colour scheme, and generally symmetrical.

why is this significant? well, if this alleged leak is true, sunday isn't the only penacony character to have a very obvious dual-coloured outfit.

i am of course talking about robin (also image below). her outfit is far more asymmetrical and bright, and importantly, her dress has different colours for the left and right sides (white and purple).

okay observation part done. theory time!

personally, i'm a fan of the 'sunday joins the astral express believers'- my reasoning is that

1. given how high-profile sunday is, and how much pressure robin could theoretically exert on them, penacony would find it very hard to deal with him in a very easy manner

2. one of the easiest solutions? make it no longer their problem. how do you do that? you make it someone else's issue. so this is where the 'deal' jade and robin made comes in- sunday's safety, at the cost of eternal separation

3. robin, tied to penacony, means that sunday cannot stay on penacony. but if they want to guarantee his safety, one of the easiest ways to do that is a kind of supervision agreement- limited freedom, under the watchful eye of another organisation/entity

4. aaand there you basically have it. the astral express could function as sunday's supervision, and as an added hit, they're also shareholders in penacony, meaning that the family would likely see them as trustworthy.

but the ACTUAL theory i have is that this is going to reflect sunday's character arc, which is, i think, going to be sunday rediscovering/resonating with the Harmony again. chiefly because this would lend a lot of symbolism and vibes to the outfit change (harmony siblings, forever separated but mirroring each other, etc etc), but also because it would be an interesting way to lorebuild on how paths work in star rail.

Idk why but I feel the need to rant about trolls band together so here's a warning for SPOILERS.

TL;DR I'll be talking shit about major conflict parts in the movie that I wished were handled differently >:((((

OK SO.

The movie was great, loved the songs and I enjoyed branches family shenanigans, including supportive girlfriend poppy I've been WAITING FOR THIS (ifykyk)

But here are some things that bothered me that they could've definitely done differently

1. JOHN DORYS ENTIRE CHARACTER ARC- jd is great. He's actually my favorite! He's a cringefail boyfailiure and I love him for it. In the movie, his whole thing was that he was basically an ass who didn't listen to his siblings and always pressured and bossed them around. Cool, that's established. What's not is, Why??? It's really the whole "perfect family harmony" thing I guess.

Because later in the conflict he says that it was "hard being responsible for four younger siblings" (which bitch me too were litteraly the same) and that all they needed to be was perfect. what I don't understand is why? Why the whole perfect harmony? Where did it come from? They didn't say it was a big thing or that other bands did it? Would it get them more fame? Would it mean that they're perceived as the perfect brothers or something?? Also, why wasn't the grandmother more involved with the kids?? Did she pressure him to care for his siblings because their parents weren't involved or something? That's just one thing that's not really explained to me ig 🤔

And the whole thing that bothers me with jd is that he doesn't do the cliché "branch I'm sorry I was an asshole brother, and I wanna be a better troll to you and our bros. And blah blah blah" like they skip that entire potential jd apology??? I was expecting that with a hug?? I WANTED A HUG WITH BRANCH AND JD OK. He genuinely cares about him!!! You can see it, he really does. He's just bad at communicating. Like extremely - so they skipped that and just made him go, "We'll follow ur lead branch," and that's it.😐 no apology. No proper character development. Just him going "ok yeah I'll follow u one time." LIKE HUH. (This also includes the other siblings cuz they dipped on branch the same, and none of them said sorry!!)

OH and another thing. WHY WERE CLAY AND BRUCE SUCH ASSHOLES TO JD. ESPECIALLY CLAY. like I completely get it, he was an asshole, he pressured and bossed you around, we know that. But that was 20 PLUS YEARS AGO??? Like no you don't have to hug him but damn why r yall so cold???

I'm thinking that because I'm p sure they went no contact at all after they broke up. So how r they so sure he's still the way he was before?? (I mean they were kinda right but still) like you could've been super happy and then get disappointed later when trying to practice hitting the note. It would've made more sense to me idk. Like it just bothers me that they straight up ignore him- it's mean! (But I can't be too mad I mean they all have their reasons ig 🙄)

While we're on the topic of the family, on to my next point.

2. ROSIEPUFF AND HER DEATH. I think it was handled HORRIBLY. Like the whole movie I was just like "plz don't skip over it plz don't skip over it." And then branch drops the bomb on them right (which still caught me off guard like damn) and THEYRE DUMBFOUNDED, GREAT. And then after that there's NOTHING. NOTHING!?!??!?!?!? they don't mention it they don't apologize to branch for what he went through they don't take two seconds to mourn her they're just like "wait she dead?" And then fucking move on like. Why???? they don't question how, they don't question when branch was living in solidarity for 20 years, nothing. and I'm mad as fuck because that was part of Branches entire CHARACTER ARC in the first movie!! They don't mention he was gray they don't mention he didn't sing they don't mention anything. He went through that for 20 YEARS, ALONE. and they don't mention it. I rlly hated that- like they rlly didn't care.

Anyway.

3. I thought clay was gonna end up going, "actually yknow what, I AM fun" and then embrace himself because hes most definitely goofy. But nah they left him trying so hard to convince himself he's serious, and tbh he just came across as branch 2.0.

4. I'm mad they didn't include a little flashback of viva and poppy being inseparable until the escape happened. Like I know popps was an infant but at the same time troll kids talk the day they're born, so it would've been nice to see them be together at least once before they separated.

Also.

I WANNA DECK PEPPY IN THE FACE. you lost your daughter and instead of MOURNING her and spreading her memory you decided to act like she didn't EXIST. WHY. like he was obviously depressed and sad but why didn't you tell poppy stories of her when she was a kid or something? And keep her memory alive??

(And sure. There's the thing with "They weren't gonna give poppy a sister until now" but I feel like they could've at least made poppy remember a small flashback is what I'm saying.)

Idk. I just wish it was handled differently like why is peppy keeping so much shit to himself lmao.

Oh yeah and then there's just my little nitpick and it's that I wish they included the troll leaders in the wedding sequence ok they're all friends they should've been invited ok I just wanted to see them again 😭(totally not saying thus cuz world tour is my fav but I am)

Anyway, yeah! I think this is just what mainly bothers me about the movie. I just feel like the conflict was handled poorly. But either than that it's still a good watch. I like it a lot :D

3. ...which scene I would like to erase from the universe and why

Probably anything with Damon because dude is an asshole of grade A+ quality and that's not a compliment, it just means he's a really, really fucked up one. And like sure, yeah, he "changed" or whatever but if you think about it, he never really did: he's still as obsessed with Elena as he was at the beginning, will always believe he knows best what's good for her, will always hover and never believe she can do anything right for herself or even by herself....

BUT since I don't want to waste my breath on him, I think I'm gonna go with the whole idea of having Elena dagger Rebekah in s2 (I think??). Because what I wouldn't have given to have the Epic Trio turn into the Epically Badass Quatuor, my god. It would have been so fun if Rebekah befriended the girls! I'm not even saying like, right away or anything, but if it became genuine and you know, Rebekah could actually have friends, for once. Besides, her becoming besties with the woman her brother killed and her other brother is hopelessly in love with, not to mention the witch who nearly handed said brothers (plural) ass over to them several times and the baby vamp with whom said brother is infatuated with? Chaos. Love it. Give it to me.

9. ...what my ideal endgame for them is

Okay, for this one I kinda need to do some character analysis for Elijah, or at least how I view him within the TVDU. He's probably the most emotionally complex Mikaelson we see, and he's definitely given the most depth. Even though TO was supposed to be all about Klaus' journey as a father blabla, it's actually about Elijah and his fucked up relationship with family, duty and honor; none of which work well together, in his case, and continuously fuck him over.

So, yeah, dude is really hard to nail, as a writer, but even just when it comes to understanding him.

I stand by the idea that he is, at heart, a family man. And I don't just mean because of his devotion to his siblings. It's more complex than that. I think he's always wanted a family, but that was taken from him and then life just kept on happening so he's probably never really had a chance to sit down and think about it. Like, we establish, by TO s4, that Elijah never factored his wants into anything for the past 1000 years and the two times he did, shit went down (i.e.: the Strix in TO s3 and losing Celeste in TO s1).

So, bottom line is: my man is tired. I honestly think his ideal endgame would be death. But not as it was portrayed in this shit show of a finale that we got for TO. Death, but after a life lived in peace, with someone who loves all of him, not just the better parts of him (as Hayley does), with a couple of children running wild, a home in the country... He's not so different from Rebekah in that sense. He just hides it more and he's hidden it so deep that even himself can't find it by the end of TO.

I think what he wants is peace, a peaceful, happy, life and then blissful oblivion after a thousand years of pain. And I think he could definitely get that with Elena, who wants the same thing and always has. Unfortunately, the Salvatores arrived in town before the Originals did and boom, no peace. Not saying that the Originals are any better, they're basically trouble magnets, but I think their endgame would have been a hell of a lot better than the one we got, if they had ended up together and somehow been able to return to humanity.

2. ...how I would have chosen to change their story from canon

I mean, I've already touched on that a little bit but the short answer is: so many things.

First of all, the whole falling in love with Stefan wouldn't have happened. Because it's creepy and I can't believe I didn't find it weird asf when I first watched TVD as a teen but hey, hindsight and a fully developed adult brain will do that. So she would have still found out about the supernatural because there's just no way she wouldn't, but I would have rather focused on her already existing relationships, like, you know, her friends??? I would have everything revolve around the Mystic Falls Girl Gang (and Jenna, because I love Jenna and I hate that she died) until Klaus and Elijah roll into town.

Then, as you can probably guess, I would definitely have her end up with Elijah, but not for a while because I'm a sucker for slow burn and because it would make sense for them to take time. She'd have to grow up first, become a fully fledged adult for her to even consider a 1000 years old dude as a potential boyfriend/husband material and dude has got issues.

There's actually a (sadly) on hiatus fanfic that dabbles into that, and it's really well written and I hope that one day the author will pick it up again because it's really intriguing: blame it on stardust by allwritenow.

15. ...what I think their role in the story is versus what I think it should be

I pretty much enjoy his role in the TVD/TO storylines, tbh. It's flawed, and toxic, and borderline obsessive, but it fits him and makes him really compelling as a character. I mean, that's why he's so popular; there's depth to that man.

His role as the Mikaelson protector, I get behind 100% because these idiots need him. Now, has he been the best? Nope. I mean, look at Kol and Finn's storylines. Do I think he favors Klaus and Rebekah? Absolutely. But again, it kinda fits because I think he sees Kol and Finn as threats, and Marcel too, to a lesser extent, given their history of trying to blow up the family. Is it fucked up? 100%.

His role as the patriarch? Also fits, whatever Klaus has to say about it, we all know Elijah calls the shots (whenever he's not in a coffin somewhere with a dagger in his chest, that is.)

His role as family executioner and villain that we see emerge in TO s3-4? I hate it, but I also see it. I hate that I see it but, again, it fits. My man has been through the trenches by this point. The red door storyline fucked him up bad, he's lost what he always believed defined him (honor and compassion), his family is intent on ruining themselves 24/7, which makes his decision to just... forget about them in TO s5 absolutely believable. And I actually loved early s5 Elijah, which I know is a massively unpopular opinion. I never liked him with Hayley and with Antoinette we got to see a side of him that we barely saw before, closer to whom he might have been as a human.

So, in short, I despise his ending and I refuse to acknowledge it but what I will acknowledge is that his storyline makes sense and is, in the larger sense, fairly accurate to the man we first met in TVD.

3. ...if I have an OTP for them

Honestly, unless a ship burns itself on my cerebral membrane right away, then I'm pretty much game for anything. So for Rebekah, because I pretty much hated every single one of her love interests (except for Matt, because Matt is a sweetheart and Marcel is alright i guess, just not for her), I don't really care. I do have a soft spot for Bonbekah, though, I think those would actually work well together.

.... and no it has nothing to do with the fact that I think all three of the Mystic Fall Gang girlies saying fuck it all and moving to NOLA with the Originals would be epic.

I do also kinda like her with Hayley??? Idk, I think in TO they had some chemistry (more than Hayley and Elijah, at any rate). Mainly, because all the men in Rebekah's life have been downers, including her own brothers, at some point in her story and for various reasons, I just see her ending up with a woman more than a man. She also has that ✨ bisexual ✨ energy.

Why is Souichi Tsujii considered Scary?

No, I mean, I'm actually asking.

He's not scary. He's just mentally ill. And he's not being treated for his illness. Like, seriously.

All that needs to be done for him is to drag his ass in to see a doctor, get him on meds, get him a therapist, and if he rebels send him to an in-patient program. (That actually might be a better pace to start him).

Granted, I've only seen what's on Netflix. But from those two episodes, his parents are basically just enabling his behavior and not doing anything about it. Annoying Koichi while he's studying? Why aren't his parents doing more to enforce boundaries between Souichi and the other members of the family? Why are they just sitting back while Souichi is clearly misbehaving? He's 11-years-old, why aren't his parents sitting on his ass about studying like how they are with Koichi? And why isn't Koichi studying at the library if he knows this is a problem that his parents won't confront? Why do his parents jump to hiring a carpenter to completely rebuild a room of the house when it'd be so much less expensive to just discipline their child?

And don't even get me started when it comes to Coron, the cat/kitten. If you know your son/brother has a tendency to hurt animals, why the fuck are you letting him anywhere near the cat? If you're aware that he's manipulative, why aren't you keeping the cat somewhere he can't get to it? Don't let him near the cat until he goes to therapy consistently!

Like, the wiki describes him as an "eccentric oddball", but that's not accurate. I get he's anemic, but don't let an 11-year-old run around with nails in his mouth. Give the kid a steak and some spinach, hell throw in some iron supplements if that's what it takes, and call that shit a day. There is absolutely no reason for him to behave the way he is and get away with it. His parents need to ride his ass about his behavior and get him to see a doctor, both for his physical and mental health. He's not about to be a functioning member of society with how he's acting.

As someone who has been battling my mental illness for the majority of my life, I'm really tired of people using mentally ill people as a horror trope. The book he first appeared in was published in 2006. I understand using this trope as a cautionary tale for why you need to be treated for mental illness, but it's not. It's just using the bias we have against mental health as a means of scaring people. Are people with untreated mental illness scary to experience? Yeah, they are. And honestly, I do think you're crazy if you know you're mentally ill and refuse treatment. I think you're crazy if you think you can pray it away. I think being willfully ignorant is being crazy.

This would be totally different if Souichi was a full-ass-grown adult or even just living by himself. The problem I have is that he is in a household with people who are allowing him to behave this way and are doing nothing about it. No one is holding him accountable, everyone is just letting him do whatever because they "can't stop him". But I don't actually see any of them making an effort. Koichi and Sayuri ask their parents to do something, anything, to make their brother stop. But their parents throw up their hands and say "he doesn't listen to us". He's mentally ill, you can't treat him how you treated his siblings. He takes extra work.

I guess the real reason I'm writing this is because, as someone with mental illness, I look at a character like him and I feel angry about what everyone else is doing. At 11-years-old, there isn't a lot he can do to get himself treated. In fact, I seriously doubt he even wants to think about being treated. To him, there's nothing wrong with his actions or what he's doing. But the people who know better, the ones who recognize that his behavior is inappropriate, they aren't doing anything to help him. They aren't trying to find a solution to help him. They're being willfully ignorant to their child's behavior; only complaining when he's being disruptive. They're literally ignoring him and hoping his behavior goes away.

But then he goes to the attic and stomps around over his brother's room, or hammers nails into the wall in a way that it could catch and hurt someone, or manipulates the cat to be aggressive to everyone but him. He wants attention. He wants affection. But he's being ignored. So he acts out more.

I know he's just a fictional character, and I know that his surroundings are set up so that way he can be as "scary" as he needs to be for the story. But for me, at the very least, it feels like a slap in the face. It feels like people who enjoy this see me the same way they see Souichi. And it makes me angry, because all the work I put into my health is being disregarded. That all the work everyone put into fighting their mental illness is being disregarded. And it hurts.

First of all sooo excited for your blog! The one thing I don't like about digital circus is the complete and utter lack of Ragtha love! Lol

I know you said you prefer platonic relationships, and for my girl Ragatha, I think if her and Jax were secretly besties, it would add so much more to each other. Cause it means Jax does have a vulnerable side, and Ragtha has an unlikely ally perhasp willing to push things a little far for her.

Also just a personal headcannon since Ragthas been there the longest maybe she's actively helped some of the main cast figure out to cope and hold on to their sanity, because she did say their was still time to "fix" Kafmo. So that's implies someone can be brought back if their not completely constructed yet. I think there's so much potential in her doing that for Jax because their different morals and personality seems like the most interesting dynamic to me. Plus, gotta love that angst.

i will admit it's a bit too early to draw a conclusion on what's going on between them though since gooseworx keeps reiterating that no one likes jax and that he's an irredeemable asshole - but i know their dynamic won't just be pure , mutual hate . i personally love the thought of them being the only one who truly understands the other despite the vitriol lol

also ! i've always thought of ragatha as the group meditator in a way ! in my head , she's the glue that helps hold the group together - i don't think the current cast will survive even a single hour without the only person who isn't panicky and/or irresponsible . i won't be surprised if she actually saved someone from near-abstraction !

So, this is it, huh?

I figured the least I could do was write something down before shit goes down because I know after tomorrow I don't think I'll be emotionally available to do or say much about the show and what it and the fanbase means to me.

The last few days, my mind has been a whirlwind of emotions and I don't think I've ever really suspended my disbelief since it was announced that this would be the last season.

I felt like Po honestly, in Kung Fu Panda 2, when he's like "But I just got Kung Fu!" when they're talking about Lord Shen making that weapon that straight-up kills people who practice Kung Fu (I'm going somewhere with this just bear with me-) because I'm fairly new to the animated shows of Star Wars fandom and didn't start hyperfixating on Bad Batch until midway through Season 2 while those episodes were still releasing.

So when they announced that the 3rd season was the final season I was devastated. "What do you mean no more Bad Batch? I just got Bad Batch!" - I didn't want to believe it.

But here we are. Final season. Final episode.

I can't describe how the obsession started. It just did.

When the first season was coming out, I was still on Season 6 of TCW, so I got into it a little late. Then when it was over I immediately jumped into watching Rebels and became utterly obsessed with that show while Bad Batch just stayed, "Oh, neat show I watched."

Then the second season came out. I don't know how or when or why but suddenly something just went off in my brain and I became obsessed. I became attached. I fell in love with Wrecker in a way that I've never once felt or experienced towards any other fictional character, or person for that matter. I grew to understand Crosshair on a deeper level that made my heart ache for him and made me reflect on my own past and choices. Echo became a comfort character and an anchor in my life in where he's the first thing I think of when I'm down to put myself in a better mood. Suddenly I was ready to give Omega the universe and everything good in it. Tech became a lifelife (ironically) a hope that despite how I am and who I am, I'm capable of loving and being loved. And recently I've become so incredibly attached to Hunter because as the oldest child of five as well, I know that crushing weight of responsibility. Of failing your siblings. Of trying to be better.

This squad. This family. Cheesy as it is, I can't describe what they mean to me but Force, I'll try.

Recently I've been wondering why I'm so attached to this show and these characters. Jokingly, part of it is yes, the Bad Batch are lovely to look at and that does play a role in why I enjoy watching the show so much, but that's not completely it.

I think I speak for a lot of us fans when I say that I didn't fit in as a kid. I still don't even as an 'adult.' Look, I'm a biracial guy from two VERY different cultures that don't feel like home to me. On top of that, half of the time I don't know how to identify myself in gender and sexuality because I don't feel either most of the time. I'm introverted. I have anxiety. I probably have autism. I'm a burnt-out former gifted kid. I quite simply don't fit in.

"No, I'll stay. You guys don't fit in here either."

That? Yeah.

This show is for all those kids. Everyone who never fit in. Everyone who was told they were strange or weird, for the kids who ate glue in the back of the classroom, who were told they were too loud, who were put down because they didn't express emotion a certain way, for the kids who sat alone at lunch, who got left behind in their friend groups, for the kids who felt like they had no one so turned to harmful things, for the kids who were told they were special only to be discarded later in life, for the kids who don't know their place, don't know where they fit in and if they even do or ever will.

It's a show that tells those kids you're more than that. You're worth it. You're worth loving. You're worth protecting. You're worth the second chance. You're worth being loyal to. You're worth teaching. You're worth forgiving. You're worth it. You're worth it. You're worth it.

In the end there's hope for us. There's hope for all of us. And I think that's why I cling to tightly to this show. Why it means so much to me. Why I so desperately need these characters to make it out alive.

It's what Star Wars was from the start. About hope. About family. About loving and being loved and learning to love despite your circumstances. It's a show that took a bunch of neurodivergent absolute daddies and packed in so much angst but also feel-good moments with stunning animation, beautiful, moving music, and phenomenal voice acting. It's a show I can't help but love and love immensely because it feels like it was written for me.

For that kid who spent their recesses with their nose buried in an animal encyclopedia or talking to imaginary characters from their favorite books. For that kid who always felt so utterly useless and hopeless whenever they got less than an A- for a grade because they were supposed to be the gifted one. For the kid who struggled so much to be the older sibling they never asked to be. For the kid who just wants to find someone, anyone, who will love them as they are and fight for them. For the kid who valued loyalty above all else, always has, always will, and never gets it in return. For the kid who never fit in.

And well, whatever happens in the finale, I'm so grateful, so blessed, and so honored to have been a part of this journey with all of you.

RAINED WORLD RASCALS RELATIONSHIP CHART IS HERE!!!!

<NOTE: SUBJECT TO CHANGE>

Nobody asked for it, but I decided if I wanna get to know the personalities and types of my main AU's scugs better and more properly nail them down, this is a way of doing that!

The Rained World Rascals AU is another one of those ones where all the scugs end up in the same point in the timeline (approx. Surv/Monk's time) and have to work together. Much like those ones, this one has LORE!!! And no shortage of it, despite me still hammering out the details. But I've been working on this for as long as I've been a part of the community, and it makes me happy to finally be able to share this stuff around!

BTW, no line just means that the character isn't known well enough by the other character to constitute an opinion either way.

(I'll elaborate on this a bit more under the cut)

Survivor & Monk

Hunter: They were the first one who the duo properly got to know, and thus became incredibly tight-knit as time went on.

Gourmand: Auncle/parental figure! Back at the big OE tree they watched the siblings grow up, but the Gourmand stuck in the superstructure watershed is much younger and timeline-wise hasn't actually met them yet.

Artificer: Survivor has their disagreements with them, but ultimately respects their rule as a leader. Arti admires Monk, on the other hand, for their innocent youthful attitude towards life. They remind them of two pups who used to be in their life.

Rivulet: (i forgot to draw the line oops) Monk really likes Rivulet's fun-loving attitude towards everything around them, and enjoys playing games with them. They are good friends with Monk.

Saint: Survivor isn't a massive fan of Saint's aloof, uptight and spiritual nature--a fact that Saint is very well aware of--but overall still manages to get along. Meanwhile, Monk spends a lot of time around Saint simply because Saint's got a good listening ear.

ENOT: Neither of the siblings really have any major grievances with ENOT, but Monk is a little bogged down by their tendency to hide behind something when around them.

Hunter

Survivor & Monk: *see above*

Gourmand: They have massive respect for Gourmand for keeping Monk safe while they helped Survivor search for their sibling.

Artificer: Look me in the eyes. No, look me in the eyes right now. You knew this was gonna happen.

Spearmaster: Hunter really likes having spears at the ready whenever they need them, and while they don't approve of Ol' Spearsy's spear-producing methods, you can't fix what ain't broke.

Saint: Hunter cannot stand how "above everything" Saint is. Their cool, calculating, disciplined behavior is no match for a hotheaded, rambunctious action-lover like themselves.

Gourmand

Survivor & Monk: Doesn't actually know the siblings all that well yet, but knows they're supposedly their family members from the future, so will do anything to keep them safe.

Hunter: Has great respect for them guarding and escorting Survivor to help Monk find them.

Artificer & Spearmaster: Sorta like co-workers to both of them, seeing as how the three of them together are the pack leaders. Even in disagreement, they are peaceful and kind to the others.

Saint: Not sure how they became so close, but they're pretty sure a blood pact was formed somewhere along the way.

Artificer

Survivor & Monk: Arti has taken a liking to Monk, as they remind themselves of their own pups from back before... the incident. Survivor on the other hand is a little disobedient and is seen by them as a bit of a troublemaker, but they still make themselves useful, so it's not a big deal.

Hunter: yeah

Gourmand: Gourmand is good at being resourceful and calm, even when the going gets rough. This orange fellow literally has no enemies.

Spearmaster: On the other hand, Arti and Spears have very different ideologies and methods of dealing with problems, especially when it comes to scavengers. For every "if we can be friends, we should be friends" from Spears, there's an "easy for you to say" from Arti.

Rivulet: Arti has no strong opinions on Rivulet, other than that their speed is insanely impressive.

Saint: Arti has ample reason to be terrified of Saint. But they are a great confidant.

Spearmaster

Survivor: Had a short friendship that didn't really end suddenly, but more just... decayed. No reason in particular, just more important stuff came up, I guess.

Hunter: Hunter values their skills and cares about their hobbies and talents. That's enough for them.

Gourmand: Gourm caters to their digestive predisposition by crafting meals of all kinds that let them use their spears to consume them. They're a real ally, that Gourm.

Artificer: Spears can't understand why Arti could ever hate scavengers. They're funny little guys who love to tell tall tales and have plenty of folklore. What even happened between Arti and scavengers, anyways?

Rivulet: Queerplatonic couple. That is all.

ENOT: Constantly being asked how kissing works if you have no mouth tends to wear you down over time.

Rivulet

Survivor & Monk: Rivulet is especially curious as to what it's like to have an older sibling, and figures that even in the scary land of the superstructure watershed, Monk can be as carefree and joyful as they usually are, then Survivor's probably a good sibling. Monk is one of two people in the crew Rivulet feels comfortable being immature around.

Gourmand: Rivulet likes to share seafood cooking insight with Gourmand from time to time.

Artificer: Rivulet doesn't like being ordered around, but likes to be speedy and run around, so it's kind of a double-edged sword.

Spearmaster: Queerplatonic.

Saint: Finds them weird, but is ultimately fine with them as long as they aren't being ominous.

Saint

Survivor & Monk: They don't have much of a connection with Survivor, but Monk reminds them of their childhood--mind you, they can't even remember when they were a pup. That's how much Monk affects them.

Hunter: Hunter is far, FAR too hotheaded for Saint to handle. Too undisciplined, too violent, and too impulsive. They can never get along with each other.

Gourmand: Saint has a pact with Gourmand. If they ever, EVER try to ascend anyone in the pack, Gourmand has the right to remove them from the cycle permanently, by any means necessary.

Spearmaster: Saint shares some sympathy with Spears for being stuck well outside of their temporal extreme of the timeline. They find some solace and peace in knowing they're around.

Rivulet: Just another over-the-top small slugcat to them. It doesn't really bother them, though.

ENOT: ENOT is actually quite interesting to Saint. They're the only other one in the pack who sees the world through a warped lens, albeit a much different one than the one they do.

ENOT

It doesn't really take much of an explanation for this one. ENOT is just a being with the express purpose of... well, they'd like everyone else to think it's just to love. But there's something else going on here. Something mysterious...

On the other hand, we also have...

Monk: Out of all the slugcats, Monk is the only one that actually manages to TERRIFY ENOT. Why, you ask? Well, considering how ENOT sees the world around them as some horribly distorted, half-finished mess, and Monk just happens to be a pup, then...

...yeah.

so. welcome, everyone, to this week's writeblr content - it's a little dynamic i thought up called "use two different picrews to portray what your characters look like and what they see themselves as"

in other words, you will see the character's regular appearance on the left (picrew by PotatoLord), and on the right you'll see what they would draw/describe/picrew themselves like (picrew by nuggts).

feel free to do a similar dynamic for your own OC's!

Leo, well, what can we say about Leo. He sees himself as a little more awkward than he really is - he's the kind of person who realizes they're in their twenties and go "I'M AN ADULT????"

That also means that, where others only see a friendly demeanor, he thinks it's painfully obvious that he's got a crush. No, it is almost unpercievable to the others, much to his misfortune.

Irvine, Irvine, poor lil Irvine. He's haunted by a lot of things. His past, his vampirism, the paranormal. Somehow, it's easier for the others to note that there's something bothering him than the tension between him and Leo.

So, in the same vein but the opposite end, his facade of obvliviousness and simply happening to be good at stuff like handling animals, butchering, and cooking, is not as good of an act as he thinks it is.

Tanner is pretty consistent, as it turns out! I think the only difference is that he sometimes gets a sense of self doubt about like, his style or how he presents and such, while everyone else pays no mind to it, they think he's cool. Also, his transgender experience is very personal, yeah? so i thought it would be fitting to represent that in this "inner" version of his.

Kamryn is also pretty consistent. If anything, what others percieve as a dry and sarcastic character is five times stronger than he truly means it - he does have that specific sense of humor, but in his mind it's not really that strong? So why does everyone think he's this "cool tough guy" when he's just chilling?

It works in his favor though, for the most part. The charm that he knows he has is also five times stronger than he believes it.

Jo, my sweet angel. She has the opposite issue - to her, she's quite animated and friendly, very whimsical. But sometimes it takes a bit more effort so that her feelings actually translate into her facial expression / general demeanor.

They can appear reserved at times, but once you get to know them, they're actually pretty fun to hang out with. And yes, she and Kamryn are very good friends in part due to this, even though to the outside eye they look like they're always locked in a 5D chess battle.

Louise is somewhere in between the two. She's generally pretty chill, but sometimes she feels unapproachable. Maybe if she opened up about her interests more, it would help! Her siblings didn't really know that she liked exercise (and women), and they only found out way later than Irvine did. He's just observant like that, totally no other reason.

Anna is having a bit of a crisis by the time we meet her. So, she generally thinks of herself as being way less cool / stylish than she is on the outside. She's working on it, though! Once she befriended Tanner, things have been going better for the both of them in that regard.

Winny is more like Josephine. On the outside, she appears like a serious and collected engineer, but on the inside there's a much more animated personality. She absolutely LOVES videogames and holiday seasons, and she's also a lot more adventurous than she looks. I mean, she's been taking motorcycle lessons from Kamryn, after all! Who knew?

Aunt Harley is one of the more consistent ones, I'd say. The only real difference between other's perception of her and her own is that she feels a lot more casual about things? Sure, she owns a very successful farm, but she just feels like she always did decades ago - she even has the same energy!

In truth, she actually enjoys when people see that deeper side of her, youthful and innovative, rather than simply middle aged and mildly wealthy. Only Irvine and Edmund (who isn't on this list) have seen that side of her.

Last but not least - Cousin Kathleen! She's very sure of herself and isn't afraid of showing it! Confident, stylish, and good at her job - she's ready to take on the world whenever!

Some other Kathleen facts: she enjoys horror movies and is actually the one who most regularly accompanies Irvine in the more paranormal moments of the plot. Anything to see a vampire in action! Don't worry about her clothes - she knows how to gets bloodstains out of them, and it's not like her business isn't successful enough to buy another, if it comes down to it.

Oooh, good questions!! Okay, if Sonamy ever becomes truly and fully canon, (once I finish flipping out lol) I'd probably actually write their relationship to be very similar to what it is now. One thing I really like about Sonamy is how they can each be independent, but still love and care for each other. And they've both matured to the point where I think that not much would look different if they did start dating. I think there would be subtle differences, at least at first. Like, I doubt they'd be super public about their relationship. Sonic probably wouldn't tell many people, except maybe Tails, and possibly Knuckles. Sonic would definitely still travel, but I can see him picking up souvenirs from random places for her, buying stuff he wouldn't normally get and maybe passingly commenting that it was for his girlfriend (and then he'd leave without elaborating and the cashier would go nuts haha). Amy would probably want to be more open about their relationship, but I also know she would respect his wishes if he didn't want to. They'd probably spend most of their dates in secluded areas, probably out in nature, in the mountains or in the middle of a flower field, far away from society and cities. He'd probably take her with him on more of his runs. But yeah. 🥰💙🩷

I keep meaning to make a post with a list of Sonamy headcanons along those lines haha. 😂🥰

I LOVE when Sonic gets to express his emotions more!! I totally get that they can't have him be overly emotional, that makes sense with his personality. (Besides when he's being a drama king over silly matters 😂) But like, getting in his head during the Metal Virus arc and seeing him start to stress and overthink things after days of infection and no sleep, seeing him have a breakdown in the first live action movie after being alone for so long, seeing him panic, seeing him display symptoms of PTSD and trauma in Prime, I've honestly been loving getting to see him be more vulnerable. He's still a hero, he'll always be a hero, but his falterings and doubts make him feel a lot more true to life. I love it!

The main duo that comes to mind that I REALLY want to see interact is Shadow and Whisper! I actually ship them, as does my bestie, but also I just really want to see their dynamic, what with how they both have trauma, both have experience with loss, and their lives have indirectly intersected. I want to see how they'd talk to each other, how they'd interact.

I also wanna see Sonic and Tangle just doing stupid stuff together. 🤣 They make such a chaotic sibling duo, they're both suckers for reckless adventure, I can just see them going cliff diving and stuff together while all their friends facepalm. 😂

Okay. So.

Once again, I'll throw out my two cents involving Bloodmoon.

I want to make it clear that I do not support the actions of Bloodmoon. They have done some horrible things and I do not think that any of the people they have targeted deserved that kind of physical and mental agony. At this point in their story that the showrunners have stretched, it is very hard to say that they're "innocent". (Seriously, the showrunners really hammered in the wrong point with that comment. At least for me, I don't think they're innocent, I just think they could've done better with their character.)

HOWEVER, I do like their character and I find them very intriguing as an antagonist. Like, seriously, they have probably the healthiest sibling relationship and the one that I find genuinely sweet. Before they do anything, they always make sure to check in with their other to see what they have to say and if they're okay with whatever they're doing. And nothing is really hidden from the other even when one of them is unavailable. It's a very genuine level of communication that you don't really see with the rest of the characters. (I'm also aware that this isn't really...Bloodmoon Bloodmoon. But the love they have for each other is very real, in my opinion.)

I can also see a lot of reasoning (not excuses, of course) for what they do. Bloodmoon has been a tool to be discarded from day one, so it would make sense that they would lash out and attempt to destroy anything that they would think would hurt them. They were also made to be violent so of course their defense mechanism would be violent. It makes sense in both a character standpoint and in terms of their programming. No one really understands them. No one understands how they operate. And since this Bloodmoon was only made from a select few memories of the original Bloodmoon, there are also bound to be some differences.

The way I'm seeing it, there is a clear lack of understanding of how Bloodmoon operates. Traditional help is confusing for them and if someone suggests it, then they probably just see it as a way for the person to get them to leave that person alone. Which they don't like. Because it shows that the person offering it without a second thought doesn't understand them.

It...also probably doesn't help that the celestial siblings gave up pretty quickly after their first try. Which, I mean, yeah? You tried the bare minimum. Of course that wasn't gonna work.

So yeah. "Traditional redemption" doesn't sit well with me regarding Bloodmoon. If they did something with them that fit more with their character and gave them development that meant something in the long run, then I would be happy. But full-on, "proper" redemption or full-on, one-dimensional villainy doesn't seem right to me either way.
